Up to Our Waists in Water in Utah

Watch me get wet and freeze my #!**## off even though it was over 90 degrees in the blazing Utah sun:

Sometimes you just gotta take the plunge—like my partner, Jordan Scott, and I did on our one month camping and hiking trip in Utah this year.

Our most super-wow hiking adventure was through Wire Pass slot canyon leading into Buckskin Gulch slot canyon. We waded through hip-deep freezing pools. The narrow trail over boulders, up & down primitive wooden ladders, and through swirling muddy waters went for miles.

The burnt orange canyon walls got closer and closer. The sun radiated 60 feet above us but we were chilled to the bone (this was the 1st time on our trip where I wasn’t over-heated!). The shadows and rivulets of pooled water from the recent flash flood two weeks before created a cool and quiet haven to trek. The trail wound, more liked danced, around in ribbon candy waves of all shades of ochre, apricot, and sand.

Coming around one of many snake-like turns, we gasped. A body of deep dark murky water completely blocked our path. This was unexpected. To turn back? Or take the plunge?

P.S.: We are definitely adventurous but we are not stupid! We checked in with the BLM office in Kanab for the latest flash flood warnings.
